| The
WA Cleaner Production Statement
PLEASE
NOTE
We
regret to advise that, due
to lack of resources, WASIG has found it necessary to suspend its overseeing activities. We will keep this WA Cleaner Production Statement
page as current as possible, but we will not be able to seek new
signatories. We will strive to find new resources to continue the
excellent work WASIG achieved since 2001. In the meantime,
we encourage all Statement signatories to pursue their Action Plans
and to report on their performance.
One
of the key activities of WA SIG is promotion of the WA Cleaner
Production Statement (copy).
The main mechanism for this is to encourage members of WA SIG to
sign a Memorandum of Understanding (copy)
to implement the Statement within their organisation through development
of, and reporting against, an appropriate action plan.
The
Cleaner Production Statement calls on stakeholders in WA to consider
Cleaner Production and Eco-Efficiency seriously and act accordingly.
In short it encourages:
- State
Government Agencies and Local Governments to adopt and promote
Cleaner Production as a preferred approach for implementing policies,
programs and activities;
- Manufacturers,
service industries and educational institutions to be aware of
and assess the Cleaner Production approach, and have the expertise
available to apply its principles and practices to its activities;
- Consumers
to have the opportunity to support Cleaner Production efforts
by demanding products and services that are provided by enterprises
that practice Cleaner Production;
- Community
to recognise that the prices of goods and services should reflect
the full life cycle cost of providing those products and services.
Stakeholders
in WA are invited to become signatories to the Cleaner Production
Statement. Becoming a signatory (see
implementation guidelines) will reflect the organisation's general
endorsement for the Cleaner Production Statement and commitment
to undertake activities that foster the uptake of Cleaner Production
among the organisation's constituency.
The
Hon. Dr. Judy Edwardes (MLA), State Minister for the Environment,
Heritage and Water Resources, released the WA Cleaner Production
Statement at Curtin University of Technology on Thursday 24 May
2001 at the inaugural signing ceremony witnessed by Mr Niclas Svenningsen,
Environmental Affairs Officer, United Nations Environment Programme
and Professor Rene Van Berkel, Convenor, WA Sustainable Industry
Group .
